The Complete [2021] Guide to Jobs For Autistic People

By: Arik Marmorstein, Spectroomz founder. I help autistic adults learn digital marketing and get remote jobs. Big portions of this guide were written by autistic adults.

This is the complete guide to jobs for autistic people. But Itā€™s not only for autistic adults. Itā€™s also extremely beneficial for allistic (non-autistic) employers.

Contents:

  1. Intro

  2. Choosing the best careers as an autistic adult

  3. Bullying at work and should you disclose your autism

  4. Working with autistic adults (what autistics need to succeed)

Intro

Over the past year, thousands of words have been written on Spectroomz about employment for autistic adults.

Autistic writers and yours-truly have been trying to answer questions like what are the best and worst jobs for autistic adults (if there are such things), which companies hire autistic adults, what can you do with bullying at work and should you disclose your autism or not.

Covid-19 accelerated the discussions about work from home jobs for autistic adults too.

We also tried to help companies hiring autistic adults (or those looking to start) on how to be more inclusive when working with autistics and aspies.

Below youā€™ll find four (4) sections. Content that should help you choose the right career path as an autistic, a section that will help you learn from other autistics and Aspergersā€™ experience on how to maintain a job and be happy, a section for employers on why and how to work with autistic adults, and finally a list of some companies hiring autistic adults.

Enjoy (and please share) this guide with the rest of the world.

Choosing the best careers as an autistic adult

ā€œBest or worst jobs for autistic adultsā€ is a pretty common search on Google.

Many people who do this search assume to some extent that autistic people are a group with the same interests and abilities. Iā€™m not judging, really. But this is wrong.

Like neurotypicals (see neurotypical vs autistic), autistic adults have different things they want and can do.

There are, however, some common things among many autistic adults that will help them succeed in their careers.

These articles and quizzes will help you understand that more.

Companies that hire autistic adults

Not enough companies are diverse enough to hire autistic adults. But after a year working on Spectroomz I can say it changes.

Startups posted jobs on Spectroomz (Numero and Peer5 to name a few), hired autistic adults to do their online research or its SEO services.
